Appropriate Technology
Properly-selected traditional process technologies can achieve their
aims, but they can also let operators down if they are misapplied or under-specified - for example when important technical requirements are
overlooked in a low-cost fast-track project environment. Even
when correctly selected, a process might need manhour-intensive
operational attention, or be difficult to maintain.
These apparent shortcomings can drive users towards the promise held
out by new technologies, yet it is often not necessary to change - by
fully understanding the technology and addressing sometimes simple
issues, previous "problem" processes can be rejuvenated and go on to
provide effective service.
At other times, newer technologies do provide definite advantages over
traditional systems - but it remains important to properly understand their operating envelopes. Too often a new technology is held out as the solution to common problems, but may still be applied outside its true capabilities. This lets the user down, and can be to the unnecessary
reputational detriment of the technology itself.
Our approach combines a designer's in-depth technological understanding
with the experience of projects, commissioning and operations
personnel. We also take into account all your business and
operational requirements to arrive at the optimum, fully "appropriate",
solution for your installation or project.
